The Ottumwa Elementary School Soccer League

On six Fridays in the Fall and six Fridays in the Spring, teams from participating elementary schools meet each other to play soccer between 3:30 and 4:30.  Each season culminates with a tournament to determine a champion.  The Eisenhower Generals won the first trophy in the Fall of 1999; the Seton Saints were the champions during the Spring of 2000; Horace Mann won the trophy in the Fall of 2000; Lincoln took the trophy in the Spring of 2001; the Eisenhower Generals were the champs again in the Fall of 2001; Douma took the championship in the Spring of 2002 and the OCS/Seton (Ottumwa Christian School) team won the tournament in the Fall of 2002.  The Friday after-school elementary soccer program is free for all participants.  Volunteers from each school are responsible for organizing the teams; the Ottumwa Soccer Club takes care of the rest:  schedule, referees, trophy, etc.  Until the Fall of 2002, six schools participated each season:  Wilson, Douma, Lincoln, Horace Mann, Seton and Eisenhower.  The Christian School took Wilson’s place in the Fall of 2001.
